Flanders District, Around 10:20am The Flanders Fire Dept. responded to a reported tractor trailer rollover on I-95 in the vicinity of exit 75. Upon arrival crews found 1 T/T Unit (which was traveling Northbound) on the median guardrails leaking diesel fuel product from several compromises within the tank. Approx 6,000 gallons was lost in the incident. The tanker unit was detached from tractor. The tractor collided with southbound vehicles which included another T/T Unit along with 4 passenger cars. Unfortunately 3 people were pronounced deceased at the scene, while 3 people were transported to hospital with various injuries. Interstate 95 was completely closed to all traffic in this area for approx.12 hours. Also assisting the Flanders Fire Department with this incident were the Niantic FD, Cohanzie FD, Jordan FD, Oswegatchie FD, Goshen FD, Quaker Hill FD, SubBase FD, Oakdale FD, Gardner Lake FD, Pfizer FD, Norwich FD, Old Lyme FD, Willington FD, Canteen Unit, DEP, DOT, and Coast Guard. The scene was cleared by the Fire Departments at 2000hrs however DEP & DOT remainedon scene for several more hours. Photos by FMO, & other contributors.
